POX infection among buffaLo in lower Egypt was studied and the viral agent causing this ayndr-om was isolated from skli1 lesions of Giseased animals in Monofeya Province. MOre than 60 samples were examined and the isoleted virus was designated A/781.The virus isolate desi6nated as A/781 replicated on c:1oriOallantoic membrane producing pock lesions which differed from those of cowpox ”Brighton” and vaccinia ”Lister ” viruses in shape, colour cnd size. It was unlethal far chicken embryos, and apathogenic for J days old chick. The ceili116 t emper-at ur-e of A/78l isolate lies between 37-39°C, but it failed to on rabbit skin PR1/D d Lf’f er-ent La t ed the isolate A/781 from cowpox and vacc i.n La viruses, and its non pathogenicity to chicken differentiated it from vaccinia virus.
