Chronic Surgical Limb Affections Among Equines

Abstract:
The present tudy was carried out on 2394 animals of the equine family, in a trial for the diagnosis of chro-nic limb affections and subsequently classify and point out the incidence of such affections. These animals comprised 1007 horses, 1284 donkeys and 103 mules; 827 out of themshowed signs of lameness and of which 280 animals manifes-ted signs of chronic persistent lameness. The latter number of chronic limb affected animals were sub-jected to thorough examination in order to determine and classify the lesions.The results obtained are summarized as follows: Lameness represented about 34.5% of the whole surgicallyaffected animals. Chronic limb affections constitutedabout 34% of the total lame cases.The percentage of chronic limb affections among mulesappeared to be 16.5%, horses 15.8% and donkeys 8.1%. 3) The percentage of chronic affections of the fore-limb was56.43%, o:f the hind limb 35.7% and of both limbs 7.86%.
