Abstract:
Summary:- The effect of neurectomy on equine limbs werestudied experimentally on 73 male and female animals(78 operations). in the Surgery clinic of the Facultyof Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University.’ The studywas d.ivided into .3 sections:Seotion A:The surgical anatomy of the nerve distributionin -the metacarpa~ (m tlatla3!’sa1. and phalangeal regionof the family equidae was studied on 15 animals inorder to investigate any species variations.Section B:The changes consequ.ent to neurectomy of thenerves commonly operated in practice for, treatmentof various limb affections were studied on 46 animalsusing both ordinary and Fackelrnan’s method. The ani-mals were sacrified after 1,2,4,8,12,16 and 24 weekspost-operatively. MOreover, Fackelman’s method ofneurectomy have been tried on 20 operations (12 animals)in order to test its effect in the prevention of post-operative neuroma.Section C:To elucidate the exact cause of hoof sloughing,the effect of arteriovenous ligation on the limb was
