Some Studies on Sucking Insects and Their Role in Transmitting Diseases Among Livestock

Abstract:
1- The general survey on the prevailing ectoparasites infesting farm animals with their possible role astransmitters of some pathogenic animal diseases underlocal environmental conditions has been investigated.2- A total of 15900 animals (10160 cows, 3365 buffaloesand 2375 camels) were examined at different occasions(June 1973 to may 1974) from 11 sources in 7 localit- ies, at Sharkia province.3- The incidence percentages of ticks infesting cattle,buffaloes and camels present at different localitieswere 7.12%, 2.8% and 11.3% respectivelyp while atgovernmental farms the previous examined animals sho-wed a lowered incidence pereentages ranged from 0.23%to 1.00% due to better management and periodical tickeradication. In additionp the incidence percentage of lice infesting 2815 buffaloes which were examinedfrom 5 localities was 7.38%.4- Boophilus annulatus was found to be the only speciesof hard ticks infesting cattle and buffaloes, whileHyalomma dromedarii and H. a. excavatum were foundto infest camels. Haematopinus tuberculatus was theonly lice speices infesting buffaloes constitutingan incidence percentage of 7.38%.
