Abstract:
As a result of power systems expansion and being loaded near their limits, voltage problems starts to appear in power systems and power system voltage security and control become an important aspect of power system operation. This thesis is dealing with the power system voltage security and control in power system. The first part of the thesis dealing with contingency analysis for voltage ranking. Anew method has been developed to reduce the masking and it is based on using fuzzy expert system By using fuzzy logic it is possible to tune the weighting factors by using Mamdani inference, and can be used to tune the exponent index by using the Sougno inference. Both methods( Mamdani and sougeno) are tested on different IEEE systems and real NGC 706 bus system. The results show that both methods give better performance than the conventional performance index method. The second part of this is dealing with voltage and reactive power control by using expert system based sensitivity analysis. An expert system has been developed to control both voltage and reactive power and remove any violations in the system. A rule bsae has been written to control both voltage and the reactive power. The rule base of the expert system is written in CLIPS, which is a portable shell that can be used on apc. The developed expert system is tested on an illustrative example with differentt scenarios and the results are very good.
