Abstract:
The literature on artificial insemination has been reviewed with on ram reproductive performance. studies on storage at room temperature showed that ram semen inactivated through a ficoll solution could be stored for 9 days. A satisfactory proportion of the sperm was motile after reactivation. There was a decrease in the percentages of motile sperm and spermatozoa with normal acrosomes during the storage period. The swimming speed of reactivated sperm was lower than fresh sperm. The results indicated that a 21.7% lambing rate was obtained after storage for 3 days. In a subsequent trial a 40.5% pregnancy rate was obtained. However, unsatisfactory results were obtained when the sperm was stored beyond 3 days.
