Abstract:
Ischemic heart disease is the most common cause of death and a major cause of hospital admissions. Prophylaxis with medication for diabetes, cholesterol and high blood pressure, is used both to prevention and to decrease the risk of complications. The aim of this thesis is to develop simple, rapid and properly validated methods of analysis to determine certain HMG-COA reductase inhibitors and certain angiotensin receptor 1 inhibitors in their dosage forms and in presence of their hydrolysis products or in there combinations, using HPLC composed of a single column and isocratic mobile phase, with system suitability parameters comparable to that of compendial methods, to be used conveniently in pharmaceutical quality control and in-process control laboratories. This thesis is composed of two parts, 73 references, 20 Figures, 19 tables, 15 HPLC charts and 4 calibration curves and in addition to an Arabic summary at the end.First partDetermination of Certain HMG-COA Reductase Inhibitors; Atorvastatin, Lovastatin, Rosuvastatin and Simvastatin were determined simultaneously.Red Yeast Rice as statin mixture produced naturally by fermentation of rice with Monascus purpureus was also determined. This part includes three sections:1- Introduction section:The factors of ischemic heart disease as the major cause of hospital admissions were discussed, The lipid lowering drugs were mentioned especially statins and red yeast rice as they are considered as the most effective drugs for helping to reduce cholesterol levels. Literature review for the published chromatographic methods was contained for stains and red yeast rice.2- Experimental section:Analytical procedure was dealt in details including apparatus, chemicals, solutions and sample preparation as well as method development steps. Almost all factors that could affect the chromatographic separation were studied including sample preparation, mobile phase composition and pH of mobile phase as well as stationary phase character. In this section, HPLC charts with method performance parameters were also summarized.3- Results and discussions section:After developing the required analytical method, its performance was analyzed regarding to peak parameters l
