Abstract:
Family Asteraceae is considered as one of the largest families of the flowering plants. It contains about 1100 genera and about 25000 species. It is characterized by the presence of biologically active compounds. Galinsoga is a small genus of 13 speceis belonging to this family. In the recent years several reports in Asia and South America have been performed to discover its biological importance and chemical composition. So, this thesis comprises a pharmacognostical study of Galinsoga parviflora Cav. to perform:1- Botanical study of its different organs to ease the identification of the plant in both entire and powdered forms.2- Isolation and characterization of its chemical constituents.3- Pharmacological and antimicrobial study of the plant extract. Thus, the present study was performed in three parts including:botanical study, phytochemical study and biological screening.
