Abstract:
Ficus (Fig) is a widespread genus of the family Moraceae and comprises about 800 species of monoecious or dioecious trees, shrubs and woody root-clinging vines, with milky sap, native to tropics. Ficus retusa L. ”variegata” cultivated in Egypt as an ornamental plant. Ficus is characterized by the presence of many active compounds like sterols, triterpenes, flavonoids, coumarins, sesquiterpenes and alkaloids that possess pharmacological and economic values. To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports in the literature concerning the chemistry, biology, macromorphology and micromorphology of Ficus retusa L. ”variegata” (syn. Ficus nitida Thumb. ”variegata”) cultivated in Egypt, it was interesting to carry out a pharmacognostical and biological studies of this plant which includes :I- Botanical study of the plant.II-Phytochemical investigation of the plant, isolation and structure elucidation of their constituents.III-Biological study of the plant.
