Synthesis and anti-inflammatory testing of some new compounds incorporting5-aminosalicylic acid (5-AsA) asPotential Prodrugs

aminosalicyclic acid (5-ASA) -Potential ProdrugsThe present thesis involves the synthesis of 5-aminosalicylic acid prodrugs . The final compounds were prepared by quaternization of 5-aminosalicylic acid esters and amides (4b-j) with methyl iodide in acetonitritle , while 9-11 were obtained by quaternization of nicotinamide by 5-(haloacylamino) salicylic acid , its esters and its amides .These compounds proved more potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities than sulfasalazine and 5-aminosalicylic acid as reference drugs without any ulcerogenic effect and about the same to twice less toxic than aspirin and 5-aminosalicylic acid .
