Abstract:
Summary this theis is concerned with the spectrophtometric and spectrofluorimetric analysis of some psychoactive drugs namely; chlorpromazine HCL,thioridazine HCL, haloperidol, DROPeridol, imipramine HCL, desipramine HCL and clomipramine HCL. The thesis comprises three parts in addition to general introduction about antipsychotic drugs and different reported methods described for assay of these drugs.Part I:A simple, rapid, accurate and sensitive extractive spectrophotometric method was developed ofr determination of the studied psychoactive drugs. The method is based on the reaction of each drug with oxidized quercetin at ph range form 4.5 to 5.0 to form ion associate complex. The colored complex was quantitiatively extracted itno dichlorethane and measured in the range of 528-535 nm. A study for all the reaction variables ahd been conducted to optimize the reaction conditions. Also a validation study for the proposed procedure according to USP 2002 was performed. Beer’s law was obeyed for all the studied drugs in the concentration range of 2.0 – 50.0 ug/ml. the detection limitrange was 0.80 – 1.14 ug/ml while the quantitation limit range was 2.68 – 3.79 ug/ml.The method was successfully applied to the analysis of studied drugs in pure form and in commercial pharmaceutical. Results were compared wth those obtained form the official or reported methods. The t- and f- values were calculated and compared with the theoretical values, indicaitno high accuracy and good precision of the proposed procedure.
