Cardiovascular profile of Losartan in comparison with captopril in Experimental Animals

In this study, losartan exhibited some antiarrhythmic effectiveness against arrhythmias induced by either digoxin or epinephrine. It was able to restore the normal cardiac rhythm in three out of eight guinea pigs challenged with digoxin and it also significantly raised both the fibrillating dose of digoxin and the survival time of animals. It was ableto prevent arrhythmias induced by epinephrine as well.In contrast, captopril was found to be ineffective against digoxinninduced arrhythmias· as it produced only transient restoration of the cardiac sinus rhythm in all of the animals used. However, it was able to protect all tested guinea pigs against arrhythmias induced by epinephrine.observed following the induction of cardiac arrhythmias by digo,in weredigoxin-induced arrhythmias was found to be accompanied by itsdrugs.
