Abstract:
Gastritis, an inflammatory state in gastric mucosa that can be induced experimentally through different ways. Present study offered iodoacetamide model. Such compound represents a sulfhydryl (SH) alkylating agent. In turn, its administration to experimental rats resulted in:1- increased serum nitric oxide, mostly due to stimulated iNOS production. 2- increased lipid peroxidation and depleted glutathione in the gastric mucosa. In other words, present iodoacetamide model represents a state of oxidative stress mostly attributed to certain imbalance between peroxidation and antioxidants.Drugs chosen in this work may possess either antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties or both. These are namely omega-3 fatty acids, curcuminoids, black seed oil, in addition to the proton pump inhibitor ”omeprazole”. The latter possesses also some antioxidant properties. Administration of these drugs was done either individually or combined, also as prophylactic or treatment forms.
