Phytochemical and biological studies of Doum hyphane thebaica L. Mart Family palmae growing in Egypt

Hyphaene thebaica L.(Doum) is known to grow extensively in the drier parts of Africa extending to the Middle east.it is cultivated and spontaneously growing in Egypt (Luxor,Dendra,Aswan,Qena provinces),plant material was collected from local market [Abo-tesht(Qena province)].Local name in Upper Egypt is”Doum”.It also found in the upper Nile Countries ,Southern Sahara,Sudan and Arabia . The plant is abundant in the dry Savannah region of Northen NigeriaLocal people use it as a medical plant for treatment of several diseases as hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases. Aqueous extract of Hyphaene thebaica L.show antifungal activity against some fungi.
