Abstract:
In the present study, the effect of fluphenazine and triflupromaine, which are phenothiazine tranquillizers on the anti-inflammatory activity of tramcinolone, which is a synthetic glucocorticoid, was studied. Two models of inflammation were used, namely the hind paw oedema, as an example of acute type and granuloma pouch technique, as an example of chronic model. Carrageenan was selected as an inflammagen in the two modelsand formain was employed as another inflammagen in the hind paw oedema technique. The chosen drugs were injected intraperitoneally in doses of 1 and 2 mg/kg in case of triamcinolone, 1 mg/kg in case of fluphenaine and 5 and 10 mg/kg in case of triflupromazine. The experiments were carried out on adult male albino rats. The anti inflammatory activiey was assessed by determing formalin and carrageenan induced rat hind paw oedema, plasma 11-hydroxycorticosteroids level, histamine and serotoning content of the granuloma pouch
