Abstract:
This work was carried out in trial to expore the effect schistosomiasis on d- propranolol pharmacokinetics .216 Albino mice had been categorized as control and schistosoma mansoni infected groups .The infected animas were furtherlysubdivided into those with early and late infection (50 th day and 70day , respectivey ). 3H- propranolol was injected intraperitoneally and the blood samples were collected 3,6,12, and 24 hours after injection . At the same time , urine and faeces were collected 6,12 and 24 houres after injection .At the end of every period , liver and heart of one anima were taken and its radioactivity was setermined .It was observed that in both of the infected groups , serum half – life period of proranolo did increased , tota radioactivity of urine and faeces decreased , and liver and heart control group . At the same time , the late infection group showed more prolongation in serm half –life period as wellas liver and heart contents of radioactivitios comparted to the early infection group . Another set of experiments were done to find an answer for the question ;does bilharziasis affect propranolol netabolism and excretion ? In these experiments , both proprano- lol itself and its metabolites in different biological materials were tracted using athin – layer chromatographic scanner . It was observed that there was asignificant increase in 3H – propranololol serum contents in biharzial compared to control non- bilharzial animas with a corres poudant significant decrease in propran .
