Abstract:
The thesis can be abstracted as follows :Part (1) :This part includes, preliminary testing of 16 phenothiazine derivatives with 18 amine compounds in addition to 17 oxidants on TLC plates and in solutions, in order to choose the most suitable reagents for quantitative analysis of these derivatives. Based on this preliminary investigation, three reagents were selected to be studied :a) Morph line and NBS reagents.b) Morph line and iodine-potassium iodide reagents.c) Benzocaine and NBS reagents.Part (2) :This part concerns with the development of two new methods for quantitative analysis of phenothiazine, using two sets of reagents :a) Morph line and NBS reagents, for only C-2 unsubstitued phenothiazine derivatives.b) Morph line and iodine-potassium iodide reagents for C-2 unsubstantiated and C-2 substituted phenothiasines with values not more than 0.23.The developed methods were satisfactorily applied for analysis of the studied phenothiazines in the different pharmaceutical dosage forms and morph line & iodine-pot iodide reagents for analysis of promethazine HC1 in urine. The possible mechanism of the involved reactions were studied using different techniques including, TLC, spectrophotometer scorning, IR, elementary analysis as well as chemical testing. Finally correlations of the optical densities of the phenothiazine coloured interaction products with certain physicochemical parameters (o and x) of ring substituants were investigated.Part (3) :This part deals with the use of benzocaine and NBs reagents for analysis of three phenothiazine drugs. The be obeyed for all the studied drugs with both reagents in a wide range of concentrations. The developed colours were found extremely stable for at least 24 hours. The possible mechanism of the involved reactions were studied using different techniques including, TLC, spectrophotometric scaruning, IR, elementary analysis as well as chemical testing. Finally correlations of the optical densities of the phenothiazine coloured interaction products with certain physicochemical parameters (o and x) of ring substituants were investigated.
