Abstract:
The formulation of a drug into a pharmaceutical dosage form requires the addition of various non-medicinal substances which are known to have no therapeutic effect. These substances include fillers, stabilizers, preservatives, emulsifiers. Many problems may arise dur¬ing drug formulation due to the physical or chemical interactions which may occur between the active .cons¬tituent of the pharmaceutical dosage form and the adjuncts. Also, interaction may occur due to co-admini¬stration of different dosage forms for example inter¬action of antacids with tetracycline, with digoxin and digitoxin, with diazepam and with chlorpromazine Many materials are used as additives or used in antacid and antidiarrheal formulation. Among these are the montomorillonite clays, starches, surface active agents, cellulose derivatives, polyethylene glycols, Eudragits , pectin, gelatin, gums and others. Many drugs were reported to be adsorbed on some of these materials Glafenine is one of the used up to date non-narcotic ana¬lgesic which relieves pain of different a etiology with
