Abstract:
SummaryFamily Chenopodiaceae is one of the largest families in plant kingdom. It is characterized by the presence of biologically active compounds such as: alkaloids, triterpenodial saponins, sterols, triterpene, protein, amino acids and flavonoids. Most species of the genus Beta showed hypoglycemic, antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal activities. One of this species is Beta vulgaris subsp. perennis L. growing in Egypt as an edible plant. To the best of our knowledge, there is no report in the literature concerning the chemistry, botany and biology of Beta vulgaris subsp. perennis L. Therefore, it was interesting to carry out a Pharmacognostical study on this plant which includes :I- Botanical study of the plant.II- Phytochemical investigation of the plant, isolation and structure elucidation of their constituents.III- Biological study of the plant.I- Botanical study ofBeta vulgaris subsp. perennis L .The botanical study includes the macro- and micromorphological characteristics of the plant organs in order to ease its identification in both entire and powdered forms and to differentiate it from closely related species. The botanical study divided into:Chapter (1): Macromorphological study of the plant.Chapter (2): Micromorphological study of the plant.
