Abstract:
SUMMArY and CONCLUSIONThe effect of captopril (1mg /kg ), lithium chloride (8mEq/kg ) and their combination on blood pressure, heart rate , serum levels of sodium, qotassium ,calcium and magnesium as well as the brain contens of ******, dopamine and serotonin in adult male normotensive as we as renal hyperten sive rats were studied in the present investigation . Different pharmacological tools were used in atrial to explain the possible mechanism (s) of action of lithium chloride on the bood pressure of normotensive rats .The main findings of the present investigation can be summarized as follows :Intraperitoneal injection of captopril in adose of (1mg/kg reduced the arterial blood pressure of adult male normotensive and renal hypertensive rats .Administration of lithium chloride (8mEq/kg ) interaperitoneally reduced the arterial blood pressure of adult male renal hypertensive rats but thereduction was delayed while lithium chloride male normotensive rats . It had in initial hypoten sive action appeared 150 minutes after administration and lasted along the time course of the experiment .Adminisitration of lithium chloride , 90 minutes prior to captopril synergized the hypotensive effect of captopri in normotensive rats but attenuated the antihypertensive actin of capto pril in renal hypertensive rats >
