Determination of certain pharmaceutical compounds containing active Methylene Group

The thesis falls into four parts :The first part comprises the literature review of the different methods used for the analysis of the investigated drugs. The methods discussed include spectrophotometry, titrimetry, chromatography, fluorimetry and polarography. The chemical structures and pharmacological actions of the mentioned compounds have also been discussed.The second part deals with the development of spectrophotometric procedures for the quantitative determination of phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone through condensation with p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde in presence of piperidine.The third part deals with spectrophotometric method for determination of phenylbutazone through nitrosation with sodium nitrite, hydrochloric acid followed by treatment with potassium hydroxide.The fourth part deals with two methods for determination of prednisolone and dexamethasone. The first method depends on determination of prednisolone and dexamethasone in presence of their degradation products (17-ketosteroid) using the first derivative spectrophotometric method. The second method deals with spectrophotometric determination of prednisolone and dexamethasone after, treatment with sodium nitrite, hydrochloric acid and potassium hydroxide.
