Abstract:
A total of 125 soil samples were collected from different localities across Egypt. These samples yielded a tola1 of 64 cellulolytic streptomycetes isolated on various cellulisic substrates as the sole source of carbon . Each isolate was further tested for its cellulolytic activity as determined by clear zone formation on basal cellulose agar medium, where 59 find 100% of the recovered isolates exhibited cellulolytic activity on filler paper fibre and cellulose powder respectively . Each of these isolates was also screened its ability to produce vitamin B12by microbiological assay employing vitamin B12 deficient E.coli auxotroph ATCC (14169) . Out of 64 isolates 40 isolates were vitamin B12 producers .
