Abstract:
Colouring materials are idely lsed in foods, drugs, and cometics. Certain safoty precautione and apecifica- tions have to be guaranteed for the colours to be used in such products specific laws and regulations have been issued by governments difinina the specification and regulating the use of food. Drug. And cosmetic colouring materials. Easy and reliable methods of analysis have to be adopted to help enforcing the corresponding jaws and regulations and consequentiy to ensure the safety of food and drug products.The present work represents a contribution in developing simple techniques for the routine analysis of colouring matter used in foods and pharmaceutical prepara-tions. The work also atimed at developing now tcchniques based on different approaches for assesmat of the purity of such dyes and pigments which is a requirement of check- ing the compliance of these colouring substances with the different laws and regulations. Preliminary studies were carried out to provide some data regarding the stability of colours when subjected to light and whether they undergo any decomposition that could produce harmful undesired materials in such ingested materials as foods and drugs.
