Abstract:
Two Psychotropic drugs one of the tricyclic antidep ressantsj namely, imipramine (1 mg/kg) and one of the major tranquilizers, namely, trifluoperazine (0.04 mg/kg) either individually or .in combination were used in this study, Experimental rabbits were used, received the drugs orally, daily for 15,30 and 45 daysThe biochemical parameters studied were Brain tissue homogenate monoamines (dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin), sone free amino acids, transaminases and prostaglandin F2 some serum . contents (cAMP, prostaglandin growth hormone and prolactin) and serum transaminases (SGPT and SGOT)I- MONOAMINESa- Brain dopamineThe total brain dopamine level was decreasedafter treatment, with imipramine , for15 and 30 days, but increased later after 45 day’s of administration. Both trifluoperazine and drug combination decreased the total brain dopamine level along the .three periods of administration.
