Abstract:
Phenytoin sodium and ethosuximide are anticonvulsant drugs that are used several years ago as effective antiepileptic medicinala. Both drugs are available either in the form of capaulea, tablets, injection or oral solution. Although, both drugs are well absorbed from the GIT, complaints after oral administration such as nausea, vomiting and anorexia may appear. Hence formulation of such anticonvulsant drugs in auppoaitory form may minimize these side effects. Since the effect of the drug can be attributed to its availability from the suppository, the suppository base have a significant role on the release of the drug from the base .The experimental work presented here comprises a study of the formulation, release, stability and bioavailability of certain anticonvulsant drugs when formulated in suppository form. Consequently, the work in the present thesis comprises the following parts;Part I : Formulation arid bioavailability of phenytoin sodiumsuppositories.Part II : Formulation and bioavailability of ethosuxiraidesuppositories.
