Abstract:
Literature on plumbago capensis Thynb . and all species of genus plumbago was survayed , concerning their uses in folk medicine, the different phytoconstituents reported on them as well as pharmacological and toxicological reports. the taxonomy of order plumbaginales, family Plumbaginaceae and genus plumbago was also survayed in addition to chemotaxonomic features of the family. Part 1 : Macro - and micro-morphological studies of Plumbago capensis Thnb. were carried out with the aim of finding out the diagnostic features by which they can be identified and differentiated from each other as well as characterizing plumbago capensis Thunb.Part11 : Phytochemical study of plumbago capensis Thunb. Chapter 1: preliminary phytochemical screening of the different organs of the plant revealed the presence of carbohydrates and /or glycosides, catechol tannins, sterols and / or triterpenes and the absence of alkaloids, cardiac glycosides, saponins, coumarins and oxidaze enzyme in all of the different organs under investigation . free and combined flavonoids were detected in the alcoholic extracts of leaves and flowers only.
