Abstract:
Family Oleaceae comprises many of considerable economic and medicinal value; among them the most important are Oleae, Fraxinus (Ash), and Jasminum. The name Fraxinus is from the Greek, meaning to fence and refers to the plants being used for hedges or fences. The plants of Fraxinus Spp. ( Ashes ) are important forest trees. They are also valuable ornamental trees for the streets and parks. On the other hand , Fraxinus Spp. (Ashes)have been ascribed certain medicinal properties since many years ago.Fraxinus ornus L. is a source of manna, which has a mild purgative action.A critical discussion and detailed survey for the experimental results attained with an adequate interpretation is advanced . Moreover some of the prepared new compounds were subjected to pharmacological testing and the results obtained are summarized .The present investigation involves the synthesis of some unavailable starting materials and intermediates e.g. 2,4-Pentadienoic acid and 2,4-Pentadienol .In addition, the study involved the synthesis of some new compounds .Moreover, certain new compound were subjected to pharmacological screening and the results obtained are summarized .
