Abstract:
The present study dealt with estimation of erythrocytic G-6-PD activity in 118 blood samples collected from:15 cord blood obtained from newborns of mothers delivered in Boulak El Dakrour Hospital (presents low socioeconomic class); 10 cord blood obtained from newborns of mothers delivered in Police Hospital (presents high socio-economic class); 17. children with previous history of hemolytic attack after the ingestion of broad beans or sulpha drugs (i.e. G-6-PD deficient patients) submitted to us from Abou El Rich University Hospital and 6 siblings of the previous probandsThe study also included estimation of enzyme activity in 14 blood samples taken from normal non pregnant females and 17 samples from pregnant females, from low socioeconomic class. Another 12 normal non pregnant, 10 pregnant females and 6 normal male were taken from high socioeconomic class; 9 heterozygote (mothers of the propositu ) and 7 fathers of the propositu , were also included in the present investigation. For estimation of enzyme activity, the WHO standard method (1967) for erythrocyte G-6-PD assay and the screening spot test of Beutler et al. (1979) were used throughout this work
