In the present study, a total of 106 moulds were isolated from 12 different Egyptian food and feed commodities namely polished rice, bread macaroni, choose, cotton-seed cake, beans, luncheon, orange, black olives, barley, tea leaves and chest nuts. The fungal contents were quite variable among the different types of samples examined Starchy foods were heavily contaminated and showed more diverged types of fungal isolates. The other foods examined showed lower incidence of fungal. conta¬minationThe, isolated strains were screened for their ability to produce aflatoxins on Sabouraud-yeast extract-agar medium by the fluorecent-sgar technique which is based on U.V detection of aflatoxins diffused into the agar medium. Using this technique,. 75 isolates exhibited blue, green, or bluish-green fluorescence surrounding the colonies on the agar medium. Since such fluorescence does not always indicate the presence of a flatoxins, since. other diffusible metabolites may be. produced by the same fungi,, thin layer chroma, tographtcel analysis, of ..chloroform extract’s of cul¬tures grown on Saboursud-yeast extract medium VTES accord¬ingly performed.
