Abstract:
The possible interacations between some antidiabetic drugs represented by insulin and tolbutamide and certaion analgesics namely, acetylsalicylic acid, indomethacin, and propozyphene on blood glucose, plasma insulin, lasma thyroxine and triiodothyronicne levels in normal and alloxan diabetic rabbits wese stadied. The effects of antidiabetic as weel as analgesic drugs were studied aloine and in combination oin the aforementioned parameters. The main findings of theis investigation can be summarized as follows:a- In normal rabbits:1- Administration of insulin, tolbutamide, or acetyl salicylic acid produced significant hypoglycemia while both indomethacin and propoxyphene induced significant hyperglycemia.Acetylsalicylic acid administration concurrently with insulin or tolbutamide abolished the hypoglycemic effect of the former, but potentiated the hypoglycemic action of the latter. On the contrary, indomethacin potentiated the antidiabtic action of insulin but did not significantly affect the hypoglycemic activity of tolbutamide.
