Abstract:
MOSt of the known anti-inflammatory drugs have poor water solubility and a common aide effect which is the gastrointestinal irritation leading to distress. The shorter the time these agents are found in contact with the gastrointestinal mucosa, the lower the incide¬nce of this adverse effect. Such kind of drugs should preferably be formulated in a solubilized form to ensure rapid dissolution, consequently faster absorption. Such rapidly-absorbed formulae improve the drug bioavailability by producing a more consistent therapeutic response and diminishing the influence of biological variables on the absorption process.Accordingly, the work presented in this thesis is a contribution to the phenomenon of mass transfer of two practically water-insoluble anti- inflammatory drugs:, namely ibuprofen and indomethacin and indicated in the following two main parts:PART 1 - SOLUBILIZATION OF IBUPROFENThis part deals with the solubilization of ibuprofen in presence of certain nonionic surfactants, hydroxyl compounds , blends of nonionic surfactant and polyethylene glycol 400 , in addition to the use of solid dispersion method to enhance solubilization .
