Abstract:
The present work deals with the phytochemical investigation of the normal constituents (lipids and flavonoids) of Phaseolus vularis L. (French Green Beans) as well as the phytoalexins induced by its infection with two fungi viz. fusarium oxysporw and Botrytis cinerea. • investigation of Phaseolus vulaaris normal constituents. 2. Stress metabolites aré summarized in tables comprising their <types, and physical properties. 3. A preliminary phytochemical screening was carried out.4. The study of lipid fraction resulted in the isolation and identification of the following a) A hydrocarbon fraction m.p. 64°C proven by GLC to be a mixture of n-alkanes n-C29 to n-C33. b) An alcohol fraction m.p. 73°C was identified by GLC to bea mixture of long chain fatty alcohol C28-C30. c) A sterol fraction m.p. 135-136°C which was identified by GLCand I-IPLC as a mixture of stigmasterol and sitosterol d) The study of the fatty acids by GLC revealed the presence of myristic, palmitic, hexadecanoic, stearic, oleic and linoleic.5. The study of the Flavonoid constituents of Phaseolus vularis resulted in the isolation of the followinga) Kaempferol-3—rutinoside (C27H30015)m.p.180°C-182°C was identified by m.p., PC, TLC, UV and acid hydrolysis.b) Quercetin-3-rutinoside (C27H30016)m.p.3l4°C-3170C was identified by mp., PC, TLC, UV.6. The study of the stress metabolites (Phytoalexins) revealed the isolation and identification of the followinga) Phaseol.lin (C20H1804)(7-hydroxy-3,4-dimethyl-chromandcoumaran.) m.p. 177°C - 178°C.b) Phaseollidin (C29H2004)(3,9-Dihydroxy-lO-iso—pentenyl)pterocarpan.c) 6 —hydroxyphaseollin (C20H1805) was obtained in traceamounts.d)Coumestrol (C15H8 05)(7,12-Dihydroxycoumestan)e) Kievitone (C20H2006) (2,45,
