Abstract:
In this work male albine rats wrer used to study the antiepileptic effect of three drugs , diphenylhydantion , carbamazepine and phenobarbitone . An attempt was made to correlate their antiepileptic effect with their plasma levels. The main findings obtained from this study can be summarized as follows :Diphenylhydantoin in repeated doses gives the same plasma level as compares with single dose administration treatment with either carbamazepine or phenobarbitone lowered the plasma level of diphenylhydantoin, but this reduction is accempanied by an increase in the eleclric shock threahold. The combined administration of carbamazepine and phenobarbitone resulted in a significent decrease in plasma level of phenobarbitone and the plasma level of carbamazepine wasunchanged but a significant increase in the electric shock threshold . This would suggested that this is a favourable combination for controlling epileptic siezures.
