Abstract:
The microbial quality of a total of 815 containers representing 23 specialities produced by C.I.D.Company was surveyed. These included 66 batches representing ten specialities of liquid oral preparation and 78 batches representing 13 specialities of tablet preparations In acldition,a total of 76 samples of different rawmaterials used in formulation of 7 liquid oral preparations and 1 3 tablet preparations were examined . These included 83 batches representing 46 different materials of chemical origin; 35 batchesrepresenting 15 different materials of plant origin, 5,batchesrepresenting 3 different materials of animal origin and 21 batches representing 12 different materials of miscellaneous origin. Finally,a total of 35 containers and 70 closures of seven liquid oral preparations, and the deionized water used in despensing of seven liquid oral preparations were also examined on the same day of manufacture of a batch of each preparation. The microbiological examination included total aerobic bacterial count, fungal count, coliform count as well as qualitative tests for pathogensStaphylococcus aureus,Salmonella spp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosaand other Pseudomonas spp.. It was found that,38 batches out of 66 batches of liquid oralpreparations(57.57%)gave bacterial counts up to l02/ml and 27 batches (40.9%) showed bacterial counts ranging from >102 to 103/ml. andonly ,one batch gave a bacterial count >103.-104/ml. while 58 batches(87.87%).showed fungal counts <lO/ml. and 8 batches (l2.l2%)gavefungal counts ranging from lO-l02/ml. All batches examined gavezero coliform count and negative tests for the presence of pathogens >(Staph.aureus,Salmonella spp. and Ps.aeruginosa)- except for twobatches which gave positive tests for Staph.aureus.
