Abstract:
The family Myrtaceae includes a ‘arge number of species (2500 to 3000) which are reputed for their volatile oil contents and high economic values. Each cymeis composed of 3—7 flowers.e Flower; Pedicellate, creamy, epigynous; the receptacle is cup—shaped, small; the operculum i yellowish- green, peaked hemispherical; stamens, free, numerous ; filaments, creamy in colour; ovary partly fused with the receptacle, inferior, tetr’a—or pentacarpillary , te tra-or pentalocul ar, axile placenta; style, conical, curved; stigma, pointed.The Fruit: Capsule, globular, truncate, tetra—or pentaloc— ular, with 4—5 exerted valves; pericarp,yellowish—green, hard.Seed : Small, pyramidal, exalbuminous reddish-brown;embryo, cont.aining protein.
