The Effect of Certain Antibiotics on Some Metabolic Aspects in Subcellular Structures

The present work deals with investigations on the effect of two antibiotic drugs, namely, gentamicin and cephaloridine, on certain metabolic aspects of rat liver as well as, on certain Kidney function tests.The influence of such drugs on renal functions was assessed by estimating the plasma urea and creatinine levels after 2 hours and 5 days treatments- with either of two drugs.The metabolic pattern of kidney and liver tissues were studied by evaluating the activities of the cytoplasm enzymes (lactic, dehydrogenase, LDH , glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, G6-PD; and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase 6-PGD), and by mea¬suring the oxygen uptake and oxidative phosphorylation of isolated mitochondria from normal and treated rats.
