Studies on the Effectiveness of Radioprotectors on certain Aspects of ovarian function

Because of the interest in nuclear applications, it is important to protect individuals against the harmful effects of radiation .The present study is an attempt to investigate the possible role which the heterocyclic nitrogenous compounds (imidazole and benzimidazole ) can play as radioprotectors against radiation – induced changes in ovarian functions . The parameters studied were the levels of oestrogen , progesterone , LH and FSH, beside ovarian and uterine weights as well as histopatholo- gical studies .Female albino rats , weighting about 120-170 gram ,have been used . Irradiation was performed using Gamma – cell 40 which is acaesium -137 lrradiation unit operating at adose rate of 1.876 rad/ sec at the time of experimentation .The animals under investigation were divided into 4 groups : Control , control – irradiated , treated- irradiated and drul treated .
