Effect of some Vitamins on Mucopol ysaccherides

in this study, the effect of vitamin ”a” and vitamin ”c” on plasma mps was determined in adult normal rabbits and in adult rats rendered arthritic by giving freund is - adjuvant. the two vitamins were given by i.m. injection in two dose levels, namely 4000 & 40,o00I.U!kg for Vitamin ”A” and 40 & 100 mg/kg for Vitamin ”C”. The two vitamins were given for a per iod of four weeks in rabbits and two weeks in rats.The different fractions of MPS (non-sulphated, mono-sulphated, polysulphated, and total MPS) were determ¬ined in rabbits and rats. The effect on joint thickness was measured in rats.
