Abstract:
Numberous alkaloids of the B-carboline – type with various substituents at C-1are known to display various grown in – hibitory activitles such as : oxopropalines ’ pyriddolol’ Lavendamycin ,ManazamineCand others.Anew B-carboline alkaloid (LXXXV)was isolated together with other known indole alkaloids (LIXa&LIXb)from the fu-sion cell suspension culture of Rauwolfia serpentine and rhazya stricta(Family Apocyanaceae). The new alkaloid (LXXXV)has a molecularformula of c16H16N2O4and a (polythdroxyalkyl )-B- carboline skeleton. However, the full strcture elucidation of this alkaoied is not yet explored. The Prsentedthies deals with the synthies of some derivatives of some derivatives of 1- (polydroxylatedalkyl)-B-carbolnes , basi- cally related to compound (LXXXV) , and preliminary screening of their potential activity as antiviral and / or cytotoxic agents . In part , it involves also structural modification of its basic skeleton by introducing methyl and benzyl residues at N-9 .Synthesis of the alkaloid (LIXa: R= COMe; R1- R5= H )was provided by reaction of 1-cyano-B carboline with methlmag- nesium bromide under the conditions of Grignard reaction.Akaloid (LIXb: R=come ; R1-R5=H) was prepared through
