Some Pharmacological and Toxicological studies on cynanchum acutuml . Grown in Egypt

GENERAL SUMMARYFamily Asclepiadeace comparises many medicial plants ; cynanch un acutam L . is the only species of cynanchum grown in Egypt .It is awild plant grown in Kom –oshim near El- Faiyum ; the ancient Arabs described it for healing mouth ulcers . The present work is to study some biological activities of both the alcoholic and crude alkaloidal extracts of the eaves of CYNANCHUM acutum , and is divided into the following partsPart (1) : TOXicity study: A)Acute toxicityThe toxic effect of the total alcoholic extact and the total crude alkaloid, denoted that tyey produce general acute toxic effects .The LD50 of the tota alcoholic extract was found to be 5.87 g/ kg body weight , when injected intraperitonealy to rats.b) subacute toxicity1. Haematological examination :The effect of feeling and injection of rats with different doses of the powdered leaves of Cynanchum acutum and its alkaoidal .
