Abstract:
Resedaceac is now considered as a source of glucosinolate. Beside, it ischaracterized by the presence of other biologically active constituents such asalkaloids, flavonoids, coumarins sterols and Iriterpenes. This thesis comprises a pharmacognostical study of a common memberof this family in Egypt which is Ochradc, zus baceatus Dcl. with the aim of:A. Botanical study of its organs to ease identification of the plant in both entireand powdered frorns.B. Isolation and characterization of its chemical constituents.C. Biological evaluation of t;.e plant.I. Botanical Study:Macro and micrornorphological study of different organs was carried outto characterize the plant and as a result, the plant shows the followingdiagnostic features1. The plant is a perennial polygamous shrubs with woody, erect stern, crowded glabrous linear sessile leaves and yellow spike-like inflorescences.2. Flowers are bracteate, unisexual or hermaphrodite, calyx is formed of 5sepals; corolla absent; androeciurn consists of 12 to 15 free stamens;gynaecium formed of 3 united carpels with unilocular ovary having parietalplacenta and persistent sessile stigma.3. The fruit is berry—like containing 10 to 18 reniform albuminous seeds withcurved embryo.4. Leaves are isobilateral with anomocytic rarely anisocytic stomataTrichomes are absent.Stem is characterized by the presence of subepidernial chiorenchyma, sciereids in the cortex as well as lignified pericyclic fibres, pitted vesselsand tracheids.6.
