Abstract:
The first part ofThe present study was carriedOut in order to investigate the affect of tewo antibilharzial drugs, tartar emetic and oamniquine, on the electrophoretic pattern of serum proteins, lipoproteins and glycoproteins. The second part was concerned with the effect of the two druge on the amino acid composition of host and parasites in s. mansoni infected mice. In order to achieve this, T was given inraperitoneally daily for five consecutive days in a dose of 20 mg/kg/day, while oxamiquine was given orally for 3 consecutive days in a dose of 20 mg/kg/day. According to the literature, these doses are affective in the treatment of s. mansoni infection.Under the influence of s. mansoni infection, there was a decrease in serum albumin levels and an increase in the α globulin fraction. The lipoprotein pattern was not different from that of non infected animals. The changes in glycoprotein pattern were assentially a rise in the α fraction and a fall in the α and β components.
