Abstract:
Periodic acid and its Salts has been reappraised in study on certain Pharmaceutical-namely ascorbic acid, isonicotinic acid hydrozide and novalginIn part 1, the reaction of potassium metaperiodate with ascorbic asid is studied, it gave stoichiometric results by direct and indirect techniques. In the direct method for the determination of ascorbic asid, the end point is detected potentometrically, visually-by either indigotine or amaranth indieator as irreversible dye stuffs and by using chloroform as an immescible solvent to detect the end point. A results with an accuracy of 98.90± 0.2% ,98.63± 0.5%, 102.14±0.71%and 98.6±0.25% is obtained, reapectivelyThe indirect method is applied by adding known excess of the reagent, back titrating the excess iodometrically . A study of the different experimental conditions liable to effect the reaction such as pH, duration of reaction, the conentration of residual metaperiodate and its effecton the oxidation of ascorbic asid , and the stoichiometric ratio of the reaction is done . On applying the indirect titration method, resulta with an accuracy of 98.75±0.44% is obtained. The general objectives of part 11 was to determine isonicotinic acid hydrazide by direct and indirect techniques.
