Abstract:
The genus Rubia includes many species, of which Rubiatinctorium L • is growing in Egypt. R.tinctoriuni I. was known since the ancient Egyptians and Romans where they use it in dying, as a laxative and in some skin diseases.The present work is divided into 2 parts :PANT I: includes a botanical studyPANT II: includes a phytochemical study f the different organs of the plant.PANT I BOTANIC41 STU)YOhprI : cromorpholpyRbtinctoriun L. (Rubiaoeae) is a. peremiial herbaceens plant attaining up to 1 — 11,4 in. height,The Root :The rootsazaitentitious arise from the lower part of the rhizome of tii plant. They are cylindrical, rough and brown in colour having a short fracture. P1rtocheml3oreenin:The phytochemical screening of the different organs revealed the presence of a crystalline u’olimate in the underground systeiis and stems only, carbohydrates and/or glycosides, ünsatuated sterols and/or triterpenes and pyrogailol tcuninz in all the organs tuider investigation. Alkaloids, flavonoicis and saponins could not be detected in all organs,The phytochemical screening showed that all theorgans under investigation contain both free and, combined anthraquinones e:cept the fruits,B.
