Abstract:
PrefaceThe prominent position occupied by antibiotics and sulpha drugs among different pharmaceutical compounds makes .their determination a matter of foremost importance.Ultraviolet derivative spectrophotometry is a relatively new technique that offers enhancement of the qualitative features and accordingly increases the finger printing utility of U.V. spectrophotometry for specific identif ication of many organic compounds. The selectivity of derivative spectrometry has been used advantageously in pharmaceutical analysis to assay drugs with poorly developed maxima or when excipients, other active ingred¬ients interfered with the conventional spectrophotometric determinations or when there is existed spectral overlapping. In this study attempts have been done to establish new methods for the determination of some antibiotics and sulpha drugs using U.V. derivative spectrophotometry. The thesis falls in 5 parts:Part 1: consists of:Review on the chemistry, structure and methods of determination of some antibiotics and sulpha drugs.Review on the U.V. spectrophotometric methods of assay.
