Abstract:
STUDIES ON THE PRODUCTION AND PREOPERTIES OF SOME MICROBILA METABOLITES WITH ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITYA total of 363 locally isolated microorganisms (100 moulds, 100 streptomycetes and 163 bacilli) were recovered from soil samples at random and screened by the cross- streaking technique for their antibiotics against 4 test microorganisms , namely , Sarcina Lutea , a Neisseria sp., M, phlei and C. albicans . The results obtained showed that there are significant differences in the frequency of antagonism and range of antibiotic action between moulds, streptomycin, and bacillus population inhabiting the soil. Antagonistic strains were more frequent among moulds . Antagonistic with both antibacterial and antifungal activity were more predominant among bacilli and streptomycetes whereas antagonists with only antibacterial activity were more frequent among moulds. The isolates showing prominent antifungal activity against C.albicans (26 bacilli and 4 streptomycetes) were further screened against 11 test fungi (4moulds and 7 yeast – like fungi) by the cross – streaking technique, plug agar diffusion method, centre inoculation method and cup-plate agar diffusion method. All the selected streptomycetest fungi by the cross- streaking technique ; most of them were inhibitory to yeasts ; saprophytic moulds, and T.rubrum . Moreover , certain isolates were antagonistic to T. metagrophytes by the other screening techniques.Thin may reflect the sensitivity of the different screening techniques.
