Abstract:
The Seed :The T.S. is planoconvex in the middle are a andwinged on ‘both sides. The testa is developed of a single integument andconsists of an outer epidermis and paronchymatous hypodermis. The epidermis is polygonal to sub—rectangular in shape having thick straight anticlinal walls and covered with thin smooth cuticle. They are pripillosed in certain regions specially over the raphé. They contain mucilage. The cells of hypodermis, endosperm and wings arefilled with starch granules while those of the embryo containingsmall undifferentiated aleurone grains.PART II. PHYTOCH.!ICAI S’IUDYA phytochemical study of all the organs of A.curassavica L. had been carried out, includingSection I — Phytochemical AnalysisA. Phytochemical screening :The phytochemical screening of the different organsrevealed the presence of a crystalline sublimate in allorgans under investigation, except the flower; carbohyd rates and/or glycosides; cardenolides; unsaturated sterols and/or triterpenes. Combined flavonoids aad racs f alkaloids in the leaves, stems, roots, f1owrs, seeds and pericarps.Traces of volatile constituents were locat3d only in the steni.Saponins were absent from all organs.1B. Proximate analysis1— Determination of certain pharmacopocial conatants namely : Moisture (18.0, 6.4, 7.3, 5,4, 50 and 83 %);asb (11.4, 8.2, 9.2, 8.4, 6.9 and 7. %); acid insoluble ash (2.4, 2.01, 3.0, 2.2, 3.6 and 2.7 %); crude fibre (11, 23, 13, 30, 22 and 4.5 %), corresponding to flower, stein, leaf, root, pericarp and seed respectively.2— Extraction with se1ectiornnicso1vcits:ond examination of the ectr-ts :Extraotion of organs under investigation wth successive selective organic solvents e.g. petroleum ether. ether, chloroform and ethyl alcohol 95 % and exomiaction of each exraot were carried out.
