Abstract:
The work in this thesis represents trials to formulate two, potentially active tranquilizers, namely diazepam and opipramol hydrochloride (insidon). These two medicaments are highly recommended to be prescribed in prolonged release form to fulfil their therapeutic actions with more precision and fruitful response. For this purpose, various release retarding agents were tested for their suitability to prolong the in-vitro release- of diazepam granules and insidon tablets. The release sustainers used throughout the experi¬mental work were proposed to exemplify most of the materials utilized for this purpose, viz., macromolecular polymerssuch as Eudragit S, Eudragit RS PM, Eudragit RL PM, Rhodopas H and Ehodopas M; hyDROPhobia, ,materials of waxy or fatty nature like paraffin wax, Hoechst wax C, hydrogenated castor oil, cetyl alcohol and magnesium stearate. The techniques employed for the utilization of these release retardants in. the granules or tablets related mainly to the matrix embedding or coating procedures. In addition, the combination of the two techniques were employed for the sustainment of insidon from its tablets.
