Abstract:
The induction of each of 27 strains of bacteria under the influence of each of 10 antibiotics was investigated. The bacterial strains tested included: Proteus, vulgaris (2 standard strains, and 4 clinical isolates) ; Salmoella typhi (2 clinical isolates) Salmonella enteritidis (1 clinical iso¬late); Pseudornonas aeruginosa (5 clinical isolates); Klebsiella pneumonia (2 clinical isolates); Staphylococcus aureus (4 standard strains, and one clinical isolate); and Streptococcus faecalis (1 clini¬cal isolate) .Antibiotics used were: benzylpenicillin; ampicillin ; oxaoillin; methicillin; D-cycloserine vancomycin bacitracin; chloramphenicol, erythromycin, and griseofulvin.Induction was performed on a medium containing:yeast extract 4%, peptone 0.27 %, Beef extract 0.05%sodium. chloride 0.5%5 MgS04. 7 H2O 0.2%, sucrose 15% and agar 0.8% ; in the presence of 1000 mg/ml of the antibiotic. With respect to the efficiency of each antibio¬tic in induction the following observations
