Abstract:
There is much evidence that serum is produced by the liver cell & that it bears a close relationship to the synth esis of serum altumin . The first part of the present study was carried out in order to investigate the effect of two antimoniol drugs APT and PIAT and two nonantimonial ones (niridazole and hycanthone ) on ChE activity of the serum and tissues of host , viz. ,plasma , erythrocytes , Liver , and intestine as well as in Sshistosome homogenates .The second part was concerned with the effect of the selected drugs on serum proteins and the different protein fractions .Mice were infected with 160 cercariae per mouse. The adult worms were recovered from the hepatic portal system by perfusion with physiological saline , 7-8 weeks later . A batch of 50 normal animals and a batch of 18 infected ones were used as controls . Antimonial drugs were givin i.p. daily for five consecutive days and the ChE activity were studied one hour after the first injection and one hour after the fifth . On theother hand, niridazole was given orally for 10 consecutive days and hycanthone was given orally only once. The two antimonial drugs very markedly inhibited ChE activity in the worms, an effect which was more pronounced with APT, the latter, producing about 85%inhibition compared to 48%for PIAT.
